website progress

The website is coming along well, Still have some work to do but you can check out the Limestone Wrestling website (currently under construction) at www.limestonewrestling.weebly.com Enjoy!

Website

For my website I plan on making it as functional as possible. I am making a website that will tell you a little bit about me, and a lot about Limestone Wrestling. I plan on having a home page where you can view a few pictures of our preseason as well as see some of our athletes. I then plan on having a bio page, this will give you a history of limestone college wrestling and give you a chance to take a peek at our first inaugural team. there will also be a schedule/roster page so you can find out information about limestone wrestling and get to know some wrestlers. and finally there will be a blog page where people can express their opinions and give some inside to the team. Visit the site at www.limestonewrestling.weebly.com

Three Websites

The three websites that I had chosen and felt were the top three best websites of the fifty were hadonejob.com, goldbely.com, and weather.gov. Hadonejob.com was a very funny and simple website. It posted many photos of everyday funny things and had phrases below the pictures. It was a good source of entertainment and very easy to use. I would like to incorporate the simplicity in my website although I want it to look more professional. The second website I chose was goldbely.com, this website caught my attention because you are able to order New York's famous bagels that are extremely delicious. I then began exploring the site and it was as well set up very simply and very well organized. They gave you many options and sizes to order from and had a wide variety of foods from all over the country. I liked the set up of the pictures and would like to take that from this website to incorporate into mine. The third and final website that I viewed was Weather.gov, I have been using this site for many years and I love how it is always accurate. It is well organized and has many links to view the weather in your area. I like how it has the different tabs neatly organized on the top of the page and they are easy to locate. I want to take that aspect of this site to add to mine. I also like there are many other different options to view weather for instance, pictures, radar, charts, maps, and videos.

Vlog Notes

For this project I wanted to portray myself as a professional as well as a student athlete with high goals and expectations and I believe I accomplished that goal. I got my ideas for questions from various places, one being my friends and professors another being mock interviews as well as professional interviews broadcasted on the web.

My intended audience for this project was my professor as well as possible employers and I also knew my coaches and family would be seeing this interview as well

Having a storyboard helped me out a lot, there were times where I was planning this project and forgot where I left off or what I was missing so I would take out the storyboard and find my place, it helped me stay organized and keep my thoughts clear. Some changes that occurred while using my storyboard were the length of the video. I had to make adjustments and take out some segments of the project like my pictures I had planned on adding in.

For my shot list I wanted to write down pictures that would flow in order. For the introduction I wanted to take pictures of campus and give a good feel of limestone college and I wanted to eventually transition to the wrestling room because that is the location I picked for my interview. I chose the wrestling room because I feel that is like my office, it is one of the main reasons I am here besides an education and I felt it would help give the persona of a student athlete.

The shooting processes was a long processes, I had to go out and get my angles right, the lighting right, and timing right. All very hard things to do when only given an hour of class time and a campus of students constantly running around. I used different angles in the interview scenes for instance I used a medium shot and transitioned into close ups of myself and Dr. Nichols my interviewer.

The editing process was a bigger pain in the but than the shooting process. It was such a head ache because I wanted to make everything perfect and it was hard when I realized I was missing some key footage to make transitions and to blend together takes but I figured out ways around that for example I used one of my takes of a close up of me or Dr. Nichols and would put that in as a transition, like me nodding or him nodding when the other person was talking otherwise you would of noticed a jump in motion of the person.

Creating a Website

For my new website I plan on making it a page about my portfolio of pictures as well as an informational website on different multimedia websites where people can share their pictures and interact with other photographers. My website will have a few pages to it. I plan on having a home page, information page, bio page, resume page, portfolio page, and a contact page. I would also like to have a discussion board on my website so people can talk about their experiences in locations or how they got started in the field of photography and so on. I want my site to be interactive and fun for everyone.

Shot List

Shot List
-Limestone Campus
 -Carroll Hall
 - Hamrick hall
 - Winnie Davis Hall
 - Granberry Hall
 - Curtis Hall
 - Limestone Wrestling Room
- Shots of Smithtown NY
- Wrestling Team Photos
- Pictures of Eagle Scout Project

For my shot list I had to sit down and compile a list of pictures that would co-enside with my interview. I found this to be challenging because I really wasn't sure what to do. I finally decided to stick to the basics, I made my opening a series of shots of limestone leading up to the wrestling room where my interview is being taken place. I then looked back at my questions list and story board and decided to relate some pictures to my questions. When asked about where I'm from I will have myself answering the question and then maybe fade out into pictures of smith town and so on. Same goes for the other questions depending on the length of my answers. The timing has to be just right.

Storyboard

For my storyboard I sat down and thought about how I've seen other interviews directed in order to get a general idea of how to film mine. We watched a few videos in class of do's and do not's also a few live interviews. I decided to keep it professional and simple. Start off with introductions of the interviewer and I, then move on to basic question and answers like where I am from, what brought me to limestone college, how do I feel the wrestling season will go, what is my greatest accomplishment thus far in my life, also what is my major and what am i planning on doing with it. I will then add pictures in a few of the shots for example me wrestling, pictures of my hometown, and pictures of my accomplishment. I will then close my film with my introduction shots as a re-cap.

Design Principals from Non-Designers Design Book By Robin Williams

Proximity- to be close to something, or near it. Elements that are close together are perceived better than elements that are farther apart.

You have to have a reason for putting an object next to another in terms of marketing. Is it appealing to the eye ? does it go with the topic?

-Proximity in a design will usually overwhelm competing visual styles
- A example of good proximity in design is a keyboard. Everything is grouped together, Letters, numbers, functions...

Alignment- to make it visually pleasing to the eye, you have to make objects unified in a line. For example text.

- you want to have a strong visual line in your design either line up your design to the left or to the right. Making everything center is a weak design even though it is a natural thing to align things in the middle.

Contrast- making different parts of your composition stand out. You can do this by changing the color of your font.
